Save the Dates - The Number Game

Circle The Date
Colored Calendar

Up Close Magnet

Bold With Red

Maybe it’s superstition or simply a fad, but bridal couples are determined to scoop up wedding dates where the numbers seem to add up to something very special.

Although dates like 7/7/07, 8/8/08 and 10/10/10 are bygones, couples aren’t deterred from looking to the future for that special day to call their own. Some upcoming dates that are undoubtedly going to be busy for professionals in the wedding industry are 12/11/10 and 9/10/11.

Some wedding dates are chosen without really taking others into consideration. Sure, it’s your day, and it can be whenever you want it, but take a look at these dates to avoid and a brief explanation of why.

Religious & Cultural Holidays – (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa). Consider your guests who often have pre-set plans for these holidays, making it a hassle for them to attend your wedding.

Major Sporting Events – (e.g., Super Bowl, World Series, World Cup, Final Four, Olympics). Sports fans, as a general rule, are die-hards. To avoid disgruntled people overall, avoid major sporting events.

Miscellaneous Days – (e.g., Daylight Savings Time, Friday the 13th, April Fool’s Day). Weddings planned on or around these days are pretty much asking for mayhem. Expect late (or early) guests, the superstition factor, and suffering at the hands of pranksters throughout your wedding celebration.

Regardless of the date you choose for your wedding, it is a very good idea to send save-the-dates well in advance to help those invited plan to attend.

When should you send Save the Dates?

With guests often scattered across the country and everyone's busy schedules to consider, save-the-date cards are a great way to give advance notice of your special day.

Save-the-date cards should definitely be sent when family and friends will have to travel to your wedding location, or if your special day lands on or around a holiday. They allow your guests ample opportunity to request time off from work, arrange for babysitters, and if needed, arrange for a hotel and/or travel.

Save-the-date cards should be sent six to nine months before the wedding; it may be a good idea to mail them even earlier if your wedding is held at a popular destination. Save-the-date cards come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and can be as simple, trendy, or unique as you would like. Just make sure that everyone who receives a save-the-date card also receives a wedding invitation.

Elegant Wedding Inspiration

When asking brides what type of wedding they want, many say they want an “elegant wedding”. There are many ways to incorporate elegance into your special event.

Consider the wedding attire…especially your own! Attire is a key component to setting the tone for your wedding. Choose classically elegant styles and colors for the bridesmaid dresses accented with a beautiful updo and an elegant necklace and/or earrings.

Simplicity is key. When in doubt - scale back. A beautiful wedding favor box will look quite remarkable with a simple personalized ribbon accent matching your wedding colors. The favor will double as a gift and reception decor!

Remember the details. Stylish accents and embellishments. A beautiful reception hall with decor so beautiful - you don't need to add extra decoration! Shimmer menu cards and decorative tea light candles can be the simple touches that accent your elegant event.

Gather ideas from our inspiration board to help you create your elegant wedding!

Tablescaping 101 – Beach Weddings!

Even though your wedding budget might not include a posh Caribbean resort, you can still share a little beach love with delicious ideas for a beach tablescape (and beach favors, too!).

Some cute ideas to consider:

Beach junk + Citrus + Blue Hyacinth (atop a mirrored base)
A little sand, some driftwood, pieces of fishing net surround a clear container holding fresh hyacinth and limes – how beachy-easy is that? Dress up the table with the elegant solid chrome shell bottle stopper in a coordinating personality box, or keep it eco-friendly and casual with bamboo placecard holders or Natual Bamboo Coasters!

Conch – From Fritters to Fabulous Centerpiece!
It makes good soup, too – but did you ever think about conch as a centerpiece? Stuff with damp oasis, insert flowers and voila! Beach-perfection! Accent each place setting with a polished shell place card holder – put some engagement photos of the two of you around in the shell frames, and send your guests home with Beach Memories in these clever little photo albums!

Fabulous Fish-scapes!
Simple gold fish in a simply lovely crystal bowl, the glass pebbles at the bottom reflecting the colors of your beautiful day. Accent with tea light candles flickering in lovely light house-themed holders, and mark each place with the delightful silver-toned miniature sailboat place card holders. The favor to remember? Kissing fish, of course!

Have a Ball!
Oh this one is just plain fun! Brightly colored tablecloths, beach balls already in the air so let’s get the sand castles up on the tables to act as candle holders and place card holders, sprinkle around some sassy flip flop frames with souvenir pics of you and your new husband, and be sure to say thank you with the super-cute shell bottle opener – presentation ready complete with a thank you tag!

Happy Planning!
